Background

"Earthbound" is a quirky 1995 SNES RPG that follows Ness and his friends as they journey to stop the evil alien Giygas. Set in a contemporary world, it combines humorous dialogue, unique combat mechanics, and a memorable soundtrack, making it a beloved cult classic in gaming history.

Game Rules

1. Emulators are allowed except ZSNES (any version) and SNES9x (versions 1.4x). It is highly encouraged that anyone submitting on emulator show which emulator they are using in their submission video and show inputs on screen.

2. Turbo controllers are allowed for all categories for the purpose of mashing text. When submitting, please select if you used turbo or not. Programmable controllers are not allowed.

3. If an emulator's built in turbo functionality is utilized, inputs must be displayed on screen.

Categories

Any% Glitchless

1. Single Segment run. Console resets or power offs are not allowed. If you die, you may select the option to not resume, go back to the title screen, and re-select your file.

2. No glitches are to be used. This includes clipping through walls/cliffs, OOB, item duplication, etc.

3. For EarthBound, timing begins when "Yep" is selected after naming characters and ends the moment the final prayer begins against Giygas (not when you select prayer). For Mother 2, timing begins on console on/reset, and ends when "To be continue" appears on screen after the credits.

4. If the Moonside text skip is used, you must re-enable random spawns by taking the bus out of Fourside (or any other method that may be found).

5. Runs under 5 hours (using JRTA timing for Mother 2) require video proof or will be rejected. Runs under 4 hours (using JRTA timing for Mother 2) will be subject to additional scrutiny. Frame drops or lack of game audio will be subject to rejection at verifiers' discretion. Please local record to avoid this issue.
