Speedrun.com is a website that provides leaderboards and forums, and it allows communities to easily upload resources for speedrunning. Speedrun.com was created in 2013 by Pac, [1] and it was acquired by Elo in 14 October 2020. [2]

Speedrun.com was partnered with Guinness World Records in the past. [3]

History

Roles

Super Moderator, Moderator and Verifier

Super Moderators are the people who can appoint Verifiers, Moderators and can even add other Super Moderators on a leaderboard. However, they cannot change the position of other Super Moderators once one is added. On top of that, they also have all the permissions of Moderator and Verifier.

Moderators can edit leaderboard settings (such as categories or rules) and they can edit runs. They can also verify their own runs. They have all the permissions that Verifiers have.

Verifiers can review runs in the queue, but they cannot edit runs that are already verified/rejected.

Elo staff

Elo staff refers to people employed at Elo, the company who owns speedrun.com.

Original donator

Original Donor refer to the donators for speedrun.com before the site got acquired by Elo. Beforehand, Original Donors could pay to make their username a gradient between two colors. [4] They could also have animated profile pictures, and access beta translations of the website. These perks were made free for everyone[5] after speedrun.com was sold and didn't need people to donate anymore, but their contribution is still honored with a special badge next to their name.

Staff Test

Staff test [7] is possibly used by site staff to test the beta feature of speedrun.com. LewisAndSpark, a former employee from Elo, submitted a run to the leaderboard. [8][9]

Farming

Farming refers to doing a lot of something, whether that be getting a lot of world records, runs, etc. Mod farming is the most controversial and is universally frowned upon as it promotes getting mod just to have it rather than genuinely taking care of the leaderboard, and it is against the Site Rules. There is also a community called Farmington which has leaderboards related to farming and tools to help you farm.

Invalid usernames

Invalid usernames usually refer to usernames that have less than 4 characters, although there are some that have 21 characters.

When a leaderboard Moderator rejects a run with the reason "Spam", the run will be sent to site staff to review and decide if the runner should be banned.
